There’s nothing hard work and determination cannot bring one way. This is the story of Nigerian athletes Tobi Amusan, and Ese Brume; who have got the world talking with their world-breaking records at the World Championships in Oregon. Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan sets World Record twice.
Both Amusan and Brume won gold and silver medal; and couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the event.
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan crowned the night big by winning the 100m hurdles; while Brume needed to dig deep for her silver in the long jump.
Amusan created a new world record of 12.12secs. This wipes out the former World Record of 12.20secs; held by Keni Harrison of the United States since 2016.
She is followed by Jamaica’s Britany Anderson who took silver in 12.23sec, while Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico claimed bronze in 12.23.
In a post on Saturday, she wrote;
“God is working His purpose out. 12.42s—>12.41s—>12.40s
“Glad to have broken the African Record THREE times. ??? I don’t know why it’s coming by 0.01s each time.
“I am trusting God through the rounds! ”
Hopes are high for Amusan as this is just the beginning of more good tidings to come.
Also, Ese Brume is also the first Nigerian to win a medal at two successive editions of the World Championship, having won a bronze medal last time out in Doha. She currently records 7.02m.
President Buhari and Usain bolt have sent a congratulatory message to Amusan.
Amusan received $100,000 dollars in lieu of her record-breaking victory.
