SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION
The symptoms are not limited to the below listed;
1) Feeling sad, anxious, or hopeless.
2) The condition can also cause difficulty with thinking, memory, sleeping, loss of interest in activities, or change in appetite.
Depression can get worse and last longer. ln severe cases, it can lead to self-harm or death.
TYPES OF DEPRESSION

CAUSES
1) Brain chemistry: Abnormalities in brain levels may be a cause
2)Genetic: it runs in some families.
3) Life events: Stress, death of a loved one, upsetting events, isolation, and lack of support.
4)Medical conditions: Physical pains and illnesses
5)Medication: Some medications have depression as a side effect.
6) Personality: People who are easily overwhelmed or have trouble coping with issues.
TREATMENT
Treatment of depression can be very effective in improving symptoms of depression.
1) Counseling: Talking with a mental health professional is very helpful.
2) Self-help: Regular exercise seems to encourage the brain to rewire itself. Also, getting enough sleep and spending time with people you care about are helpful.
3)Changing your behavior: Your physical activity, lifestyle, and even your way of thinking are helpful.
4) Get enough sleep at night. Depression can make it hard to get enough sleep. So, start by making some changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Try not to take nap. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom.
5) Take on responsibilities: Don’t give up your responsibilities at home and at work. Don’t! Staying involved and having responsibilities can help maintain a lifestyle that can help counter depression.
6) Challenge negative thoughts: Tell yourself you are beautifully and wonderfully made by God
8)Eat healthily: Food rich in Omega 3 and folic acids could help ease depression.
9)Avoid alcohol and other drugs: Substance misuse is common in people who have depression.
10) Medication: Antidepressants.
Brain stimulation therapy: E.g electroconvulsive therapy. This could be done in the hospital.
